Petable Portraits, Pet Portraits, Pet Paintings and Pet Art by Daniele Jones

Here's the original. I'll remove the background to put all the focus on Shadow's face. And I'll take the snow off her chin. Shadow's owner sent me several pictures for reference to I have a great feel for her fur, expressions and personality, too.

Here's the final drawing! And here's Shadow's owners comments:
"Shadow was delivered yesterday and she is absolutely beautiful!!!!! There is NO mistaking that is our Shadow!!!! I still can’t believe you were able to capture her so perfectly from the pictures I sent. I especially love the way her eyes are so realistic, like she is looking right at us!!! Remarkable job!!!! We can’t thank you enough for bringing our Shadow to life. I can’t wait to find the perfect frame for her. We especially want to thank you for completing Shadow’s portrait for us so quickly; as you know it was just a year ago that we lost her and this portrait is our tribute to her for being such a special dog who we saved from possibly living out the rest of her life in a shelter because of her senior age. And she helped us SO much to heal after the loss of our first dog after 13 years."

Amost finished. I'll check with Shadow's owner to see if her expression seems right and do a little more work on her fur adjusting shadows and shines.

To make sure Shadow looks black enough, I'm mixing in some charcoal pencil with the graphite pencil. And since there is so much graphite and charcoal building up on the paper I'm working from left to right so I don't smudge it around too much. When Shadows form is filled in I will go over the whole drawing again adjusting values to make her look just right.

Shadow seems like she is looking right into you. I changed the way she was sitting slightly from the picture to make a better composition for the drawing, this also gives her a little more expression because you can clearly see how perky her ears are. In almost all of the pictures I saw of her, her head was tilted slightly so I definilty wanted to keep that characteristic of her look. I can't wait to get going on that fur!
